Cookies and Analytics
SavvySalt.com uses Cookies to implement site functionality (such as the popup notification that likely brought you to this page) and for Analytics purposes.
Analytics are used for measuring the performance of our articles, videos and other content; determining which articles are the most popular, for example.
Although we at SavvySalt LLC find analytics to be valuable for creating content our visitors and subscribers find valuable we believe it’s more important to respect the privacy wishes of our visitors. SavvySalt.com only uses analytics in ways that respect the Do Not Track (DNT) header:
DNT is a web browser setting that requests that a web application disable its tracking of an individual user. When you choose to turn on the DNT setting in your browser, your browser sends a special signal to websites, analytics companies, ad networks, plug in providers, and other web services you encounter while browsing to stop tracking your activity.

To enable DNT you can find instructions at allaboutdnt.com or hotjar.com on how to enable DNT for a multitude of browsers.
Jetpack
Jetpack is a WordPress add-on that implements additional functionality and features on top of WordPress; as well as providing some analytics. It uses cookies to implement some of its features including analytics.
Automattic, Jetpack’s developer, provides this great explanation of the cookies Jetpack uses.
WordPress.com Stats (Jetpack Analytics)
WordPress.com Stats is Jetpack’s analytics component.
WordPress.com Stats supports honoring Do Not Track (DNT):
As a site owner, you can force the WordPress.com Stats feature to honor any visitors with DNT enabled and not track their activity (i.e. post and page views)
SavvySalt.com has WordPress.com Stats setup to honor DNT if a visitor has DNT set.
Jetpack Contact Form
When visitors fill in the contact form on the site we collect the data shown in the contact form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to aid spam and bot detection.
Jetpack Cookie & Consent Banner
SavvySalt.com uses Jetpack’s Cookie & Consent Banner to make sure every visitor to the site is notified about the site’s use of cookies, analytics, affiliate programs and more. A cookie is used to remember the visitor’s response to that notification.
Google Analytics
SavvySalt LLC uses Google Analytics to provide industry leading analytics for SavvySalt.com.
At SavvySalt.com we completely disable Google Analytics for users with the DNT header set (hat tip Paul Furley).
Google Analytics will also honor the Google Analytics Opt-Out Browser Add-On. You don’t need this Add-On for SavvySalt.com, instead set DNT on any major browser and our site will respect that setting, but it’s an option available to you for other sites.
SavvySalt.com also enables IP Anonymization in Google Analytics for every session. In short IP Anonymization means that the IP addresses stored in Google Analytics are not personally identifiable information.
Embedded content from other websites
Pages on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
